St Anne Chapel, as good as new

SITIAWAN: St Anne’s Chapel, which was in a dilapidated condition and not used for many years, has now been repaired, renovated and painted.

Bishop Antony Selvanayagam blessed the chapel on July 22. The event began with Bishop Selva cutting the ribbon at the entrance while a hymn in Tamil was sung. The bishop explained  that the rite of Blessing symbolises our baptism. He asked the congregation to be attentive to the beautiful Prayer of Blessing. Read More

Feastday celebration of the Church of St Francis de Sales

SITIAWAN:  Parishioners of the Church of St Francis de Sales celebrated their feastday with a triduum beginning from January 25.

The celebration kicked off with a flag-raising ceremony by Fr Charles Chin from the Church of St Mary, Tapah.
Fr Chin in his homily expounded on the theme of Discipleship. Speaking in Mandarin and English, Fr Chin also gave a brief history of St Francis De Sales. Read More
Celebration and farewell at St Francis De Sales

SITIAWAN: A joint celebration was held at the Church of St Francis de Sales to celebrate the First Holy Communion and to bid farewell to the Sarawakian nuns.

In preparation for their Holy Communion, 18 children from the English-, Tamil- and Chinese-speaking groups attended a camp animated by teachers and lay leaders. The students shared that the sacrament of reconciliation was a great experience, as this was a new experience for them.

Nineteen confirmed at the Church of St Francis De Sales

SETIAWAN: Nineteen youths received the Sacrament of Confirmation furing a multilingual Eucharistic Celebration at the Church of St Francis de Sales.

The four-language celebration held on Oct 14 was presided over by Bishop Antony Selvanayagam with parish priest Fr Nelson Joseph concelebrating.

SITIAWAN: More than 350 people gathered in Bruas, a small country town in the District of Manjung to celebrate the Feast of St Jane Chantal.

Jane Frances de Chantal was a simple housewife and widow. She became a close friend of Bishop Francis de Sales. She dedicated her life for the care of the poor and the sick and was later made a saint.

IJ Sister celebrates 60th anniversary of religious life

SITIAWAN: It was a time of joy and celebration for both the IJ Sisters and the Parishioners of St. Francis de Sales on the occasion of Sister Annie Newman (pic) celebrating 60 years in religious life.

The celebration took place on Dec 7 at the IJ Convent, with a Eucharistic celebration.

Sr Annie joined the Novitiate in 1945 and received the gift to pray in LOVE that opened up a new perspective in her missionary life. She loved and served her mission when she was a teacher and also Principal in the Kota and Klian Pau Convents, Taiping, Perak. As any ordinary young person she loved concerts and operettas and these were the highlights of her life that she thoroughly enjoyed and cherished.

New PPC for Church of St Francis de Sales

SITIAWAN: The Church of St Francis de Sales, held the installation of their new Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) members during the Sunday Mass. In his sermon, parish priest Fr Nelson Joseph said that their main duty is to work with him.

The PPC is also to be the voice of the parishioners. Fr Nelson advised them that any matter regarding church administration should be brought to him directly.

Prayer is acknowledging the presence of God

SITIAWAN: Bishop Anthony Selvanagam made a 4-day pastoral visit to the Church of St Francis de Sales (SFDS), recently. During his visit, he visited the Orang Asli Centre in Suak Padi where he said Mass and later joined in the fellowship.

He then visited the Chapel of St Jane Frances de Chantel in Bruas where he met the parishioners and celebrated Mass in the evening. The next day, the Bishop had a meeting with the Parish Pastoral Council members of SFDS, both the old and the newly elected members, and reminded them of their responsibilities. The pastoral visit culminated in a four-language Eucharistic Celerbration.
