GOPENG: Some 1,500 people thronged the chapel of St Jude, in Gopeng here, to celebrate the feast of St Jude, on Oct 28. The feastday was preceded by three days of novena prayers and Masses to St Jude,   the patron saint of desperate cases.

 St Jude’s chapel, built by Fr Noel Maury MEP (after the French Tekka mining company donated a piece of land in 1919), annually attracts thousands of people before and on his feast day. Many have had prayers answered after praying for St Jude’s intercession, in any kind of trials. Read More

It was indeed something unique as the whole parish had come to encourage these children on their journey in their faith formation. Joining them were their parents, relatives and friends.

This ministry encompasses  the Teachings of Christ to  care for the poor, the sick, the destitute; in short, the commandments to love God, love ourselves and love our neighbour. The Catholic Social Teaching is that to be a Christian is to live as Christ did.

Batu Gajah youths respond to call of their parish

BATU GAJAH: Tending to the less fortunate and the destitute in our society comes in many forms. It does not require us to be there for them 24 hours a day or to attend to all their needs personally.

Giving our time to them is one of the ways in which we can reach out to these people in our society. This was what the youths from the parish of St Joseph’s Church in Batu Gajah found out recently when they were commissioned by their parish priest, Fr Robin Andrews to represent the parish at the Charity Food and Fun Fair for the handicap centre in their neighbourhood.

Zone 6 gathered their members at the Church hall because no home could accommodate the 80 members. Their guest of honour was their parish priest, Fr Robin Andrews who came and joined them in their celebration.

BATU GAJAH: During each of his pastoral visits to the parishes in the Penang Diocese, Bishop Antony Selvanaygam made it a point to celebrate Mass with his parishioners. It was no different at the parish of St Joseph, Batu Gajah during his pastoral visit.

The Mass he celebrated not only was part of the Golden Jubilee of the Diocese of Penang but was also his Silver Jubilee Episcopal Ordination. A total of 150 parishioners attended the weekday Mass. In his homily, he spoke at great length on the preparation for the Diocese Golden Jubilee Celebration.

BATU GAJAH: As the Penang Diocese prepares for her Golden Jubilee this year, four main events have been prepared for this occasion. The events are, A Formation Session, The Jubilee Pilgrim Statue, Bishop’s Pastoral Visit and Parish Exhibition.

These events have been designed to lead all parishioners in an atmosphere of joy and holiness in celebrating their 50 years of existence in Malaysia. The climax of the event will be held at PISA in Penang on August 31.
On July 11, His Lordship made his pastoral visit to the parish of St Joseph in Batu Gajah. During his stay, he made it a point to have a dialogue with the Parish Pastoral Council and to understand the development and difficulties of the parish.
