GOPENG : Over 1,500 people from all over Malaysia and Singapore, gathered at St Jude’s Chapel, to celebrate the feast of Apostles Sts Simon and Jude on Oct 25. As in past years, many of the devotees came a day earlier to make sure they were able to attend Mass, celebrated by Fr Robin Andrews, parish priest of St Joseph’s Church. It was heartwarming to hear the youthful 15- member St Jude’s Choir, comprising children aged ten and eleven and several teenagers, singing angelically for the Mass, in English, Bahasa Malaysia and Tamil. November 02, 2008 BATU GAJAH: The members of the Parish Human Development Centre (PHDC), of St Joseph Church, Batu Gajah, recently organized a Migrant Sunday Celebration. The objective of the celebration was to meet the migrant workers living and working in the vicinity who seemed to be isolated from the parishioners. 11 November 2007 GOPENG: Some 1,500 people thronged the chapel of St Jude, in Gopeng here, to celebrate the feast of St Jude, on Oct 28. The feastday was preceded by three days of novena prayers and Masses to St Jude, the patron saint of desperate cases. St Jude’s chapel, built by Fr Noel Maury MEP (after the French Tekka mining company donated a piece of land in 1919), annually attracts thousands of people before and on his feast day. It does not require us to be there for them 24 hours a day or to attend to all their needs personally. Giving our time to them is one of the ways in which we can reach out to these people in our society. BATU GAJAH: During each of his pastoral visits to the parishes in the Penang Diocese, Bishop Antony Selvanaygam made it a point to celebrate Mass with his parishioners. It was no different at the parish of St Joseph, Batu Gajah during his pastoral visit. The Mass he celebrated not only was part of the Golden Jubilee of the Diocese of Penang but was also his Silver Jubilee Episcopal Ordination. A total of 150 parishioners attended the weekday Mass.
