PENANG: About 1,200 people thronged the newly renovated Risen Christ Church on Nov 3 to witness the ordination of a ‘Son of Risen Christ’, Fr Andrew Stephen. In attendance were 56 priests from all over the Diocese, including Sabah, Sarawak and also Brunei.
Two Anglican pastors from the Church next door were also invited to witness the rich ritual of a Catholic ordination ceremony. The ordination was presided by the Bishop of Penang, Rt Rev Antony Selvanayagam, and joining in was Emeritus Archbishop Soter Fernandez. Fr Andrew Stephen chose Go… I will be with you till the end of time (Mt 28:30) as his theme. | Bishop Anthony Selvanayagam led dedication service of the new grotto, Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto this evening at the Risen Christ Church Penang. The Herald May 2010 PENANG: The Risen Christ Church had a soft opening of the parish grotto, the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. Parish priest Fr Augustine Wong led about 100 parishioners in offering Rosary prayers. This is part of the church expansion programme which comprises of the renovation of the main church building, a three-storey multipurpose cum activity building, renovation of the church, parish house and the grotto. The three-storey multipurpose / activity building has been completed. The classrooms on the first and second floors are used mainly for catechism classes, meetings and retreats. The multipurpose hall is on the ground floor. Currently we celebrate mass in this hall while the main church building is being renovated. Renovation is expected to be completed by August 2010. The parish house formerly served as the activity centre. Simple renovation and restoration work was done last year. It’s now the parish house-cum-office. In front of this parish house is the beautiful grotto with the Penang Hill as the backdrop. The grotto was designed by Fr Wong. — By Nicholas Chin |

20 January 2008 PENANG: A combined Christmas party for the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP) adoptees from the conferences of Risen Christ and Assumption was held in December last year. The highlight of the day was a half hour magic show by David Lim. The children were enthralled by his performance as he was very funny and had good interaction with the children. 28 October 2007 AIR ITAM: The feast of Our Lady of Good Health was celebrated recently at the Church of Risen Christ recently. For the third year, the main celebrant was Fr Edwin Paul, the rector of College General. The celebration started with novena at 5.30pm followed by Mass and procession. The statue of Our Lady of Good Health was placed on a float decorated with flowers and surrounded by children who scattered flower petals on the route. The 1.5 km procession began at the church into Air Itam town and back. Rosary was recited in Tamil, English and Mandarin during the procession. Everyone then returned to the church for fellowship. Risen Christ Penang starts off the new year 2011 with an auspicious dedication service of her new church building. A total of more than 1200 people including the guest of honor the Chief Minister of Penang Lim Guan Eng, Mr Wong Hon Wai the state assemblyman of Air Itam, the pastors of the neighboring Anglican church and the headmaster of SJK(C) Kong Min attended this service.
PENANG: All six BECs of the Church of the Risen Christ worked together to ensure the success of the Feast of Our Lady of Good Health recently.
