The children had fun playing games and joining in the Christmas carols, which were sung by Christ the King Church carollers. There were also presents for everyone including foodstuff like rice, milk and other goodies as well as ang pow gift packets for the families. The event was held at the Church premises on Sunday Dec 19.

A few days earlier the society had organized a Coffee Morning and garage sale which netted more than RM1,500, for its activities for the poor. The society supports 40 needy families in Kedah’s Kuala Muda district by providing them monthly rations of foodstuff as well as medical and educational aid. — By Anne Haslam

Twelve-year olds deliver message of the Cross
SUNGAI PETANI: The message of the Cross embracing Jesus words: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up His Cross and follow me,” was admirably delivered by 12-year olds during the days leading up to Passion Week at Church of Christ the King.

It was a message for all times and seasons not only for the Passion Week — that is if we want to lead a victorious life we must follow Jesus no matter what the circumstances. Straying away and ‘doing our own thing’ during a time of crisis will only get us into deeper trouble. Read More

Labour Day celebrations at Sg Petani parish
27 May 2007 issue of The Herald

SG PETANI: Workers’ Day, or Labour Day, was celebrated at Christ the King Church with a Eucharistic Celebration, especially for the parish’s sizeable number of migrant workers. The Eucharistic celebration was coordinated with the help of the migrants’ coordinator, Robin Fernandez.

The Mass, in Bahasa Malaysia, was animated by the migrants themselves, with the liturgy being prepared by Naim and Dwy.

In his homily, parish priest, Fr Michael Dass, referred to St Joseph the Worker, the patron saint of workers, as a hardworking, humble man who went through many difficulties in his life and overcame them. He encouraged the congregation to emulate St Joseph.

After the Mass, the parishioners adjourned to the pastoral centre for breakfast. Waiting in surprise for Fr Dass was a birthday cake to celebrate his birthday, which fell a day later, on May 2.

After the cutting of the cake, a sing-a-long session was conducted. This was followed by a session of games that those present sportingly participated in.

The celebrations stretched on until lunch time. Thanks to the Parish Human Development Committee, the Labour Day event was an obvious success.

A Liturgical Experience Of God\'s Presence.

24 July 2005 issue of The Herald.

SUNGAi PETANI: During the Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) Awareness session. Fr Francis Xavier Selvarajoo also clarified certain points regarding the CLOW and the Sunday Assembly.

CLOW is essentially WORSHIP, not catecheses! The emphasis is on ritual not learning.

Sunday basically is the day of worship of the assembly of the local Church. The children do not totally celebrate a 'children's Mass' apart from adults. CLOW is a liturgical experience of God''s presence in the ritual proclamation of the Word.
