Double joy at Church of St Mary, Tapah

TAPAH: The Christmas party for the Catholic Orang Asli community in Perak was held on Jan 3 at the Church of St Mary to coincide with the 35th Anniversary of the Priestly Ordination of Fr Charles Chin who heads the Orang As1i Apostolate of the Diocese of Penang.

Despite the early morning showers, busloads of about 400 Orang Asli, friends and family members from Ipoh, Tapah and Bidor came to attend this special Mass and celebration. Some highlights in the Mass were a renewal of marriage vows between an Asli couple and the baptism of an Asli baby. Read More
Orang Asli children receive the Eucharist

PERAK: Sixty-five Asli children from eight Asli kampongs received their First Holy Communion at St Mary’s Church, Tapah, on April 6 at a special Mass celebrated by Fr Charles Chin.

They came from kampongs around Sg Bil near Slim River, Sg Lembing at Behrang, Changkat Ramu and Erong near Ulu Slim, Kg Chang near Bidor, Batu Empok at Temoh, Batu Berangkai near Kampar, and Suak Padi at Botak Kanan, near Sitiawan. Read More

IPOH: Fr Charles Chin celebrated his birthday with friends recently.

He is familiar to many groups especially those who have had the privilege of participating in his many spiritual formation and silent meditation retreats throughout Malaysia.

He is also very involved with the Orang Asli community whose families and children have benefited from the various religious and outreach programmes introduced by him and his Orang Asli committee members.

IPOH: Fr Charles Chin’s 63rd birthday celebration was both joyful and purpose-filled. Joined by relatives and friends who hosted the dinner at a restaurant recently, Fr Chin warmly welcomed each and every one, and spent time chatting with all.

When asked what was his secret of looking youthful, he said: “Every night I surrender to the Lord, and die to myself. It’s the art of letting go,” he said.

Perak youths come together for one-day session

TAPAH, Perak: In order to establish the South Perak Tamil youth, the leaders had a 1-day Youth gathering with the theme Join Hands Together. A total of 107 youths in South Perak District came together to strengthen relationship and build communication among them.

 The programme was a result of the Youth Leadership Formation, which was held in Ipoh in March 2006 conducted by the Penang Diocesan Youth Network.

Memorable trip for Tapah Orang Aslis
