BATU GAJAH: The members of the Parish Human Development Centre (PHDC), of St Joseph Church, Batu Gajah, recently organized a Migrant Sunday Celebration. The objective of the celebration was to meet the migrant workers living and working in the vicinity who seemed to be isolated from the parishioners. It was also aimed at touching their lives by telling them that they have a family here in Malaysia whom they can rely on during their hardships.

The halfday programme started with Mass celebrated by Fr Robin Andrews. During the Mass, the migrants had an opportunity to be involved in the collection and offertory.

After Mass, there were praise and worship and icebreakers. Migrants from Indonesia and Myanmar were present.
As it was the day of Consecration of the Cross, Lawrence from the PHDC conducted a small Q&A session. He asked each individual the meaning of the cross. A lot of answers such as love, sacrifice, gratitude and so on came up during the session.

Lazarus from the PHDC stood up and gave his comment. He spoke about the migrant workers, their sufferings and their stigmatization by the community. Thus he told the parishioners that not all migrants face these problems but that we need to help those who are suffering in our land. Just before lunch, a short game was played.

All the migrants had lots of fun and enjoyed themselves. Just before the programme ended, key chains were handed out to all as a souvenir. The programme ended with a closing prayer led by Gabriel the youth leader of the parish. In a nutshell, the programme was a success as it managed to bring together the migrants, the PHDC members, the youths, love squad members and the catechism children.
