Celebrating the Feast of St Jane Chantal

SITIAWAN: More than 350 people gathered in Bruas, a small country town in the District of Manjung to celebrate the Feast of St Jane Chantal.

Jane Frances de Chantal was a simple housewife and widow. She became a close friend of Bishop Francis de Sales. She dedicated her life for the care of the poor and the sick and was later made a saint.

Her feast was celebrated on August 12, 2006 with a three-day celebration including a flag raising ceremony, Novena and Mass. Although the members are few, the Chapel (picture right) is well-maintained with the assistance of the Parish Priest in Sitiawan who visits them often.

Fr Joseph Nelson, parish priest of the Church of St Francis De Sales, spent two nights and two days before the feast in Bruas visiting the parishioners and looking into their needs.

For the celebrations, the chapel was filled with parishioners from Taiping, Segari, Pantai Remis and Sitiawan. The church was decorated and the Tamil choir from SFDS Sitiawan led by choir master Patrick had come to help in the singing. They brought along a keyboard and a new microphone system to be placed in the church.

Fr Joseph in his homily cited the value of growing in faith and not to give up and assured them that the little community here will eventually grow in numbers.

Before the end of the celebration, representatives from the BECs together with the Chairperson of the organising Committee Lena Rosi thanked all who had come from far and near and specially thanked Patrick, the Tamil master from SMS Parish Sitiawan who had led the choir for the day.
