Celebration and farewell at St Francis De Sales

SITIAWAN: A joint celebration was held at the Church of St Francis de Sales to celebrate the First Holy Communion and to bid farewell to the Sarawakian nuns.
In preparation for their Holy Communion, 18 children from the English-, Tamil- and Chinese-speaking groups attended a camp animated by teachers and lay leaders. The students shared that the sacrament of reconciliation was a great experience, as this was a new experience for them.
In his homily, parish priest Fr Nelson Joseph shared with the students that this was the second step in their Christian life, the first was during baptism when they were infants and the third would be the sacrament of Confirmation.
He encouraged parents to build their children’s faith by praying regularly with their children, and to pray for them, so that they would grow in faith. He also reminded parents that this was only the beginning for their children as they have a long way to go.
The parishioners also took this opportunity to say farewell to the Sarawakian nuns, Sr Cornelia Wong SSFS and Martina Nari SSFS who are returning to Sarawak to continue in other ministries.
The sisters have been serving for many years under late Frs Datuk A. Julian, Regis, Xavier Francis and David Lourdes. The sisters were specially brought here to do pastoral work for the Chinese speaking parishioners.
The PPC Chairman thanked the sisters for their time and untiring dedication during their stay here and wished them the best in their future ministry.
The sisters, in return, thanked Fr Nelson and all the parishioners for their kindness, love and all the assistance given to them during their tenure here.
The celebration concluded with a fellowship at the field behind the church.
