BUKIT MERTAJAM: The blessing of the cemetery took place on Sunday, Nov 2 at 11.30am. There was no Mass at the cemetery as All Souls Day was on a Sunday and the usual Sunday Masses were held at the church.
Msgr Stephen Liew led the blessing, followed by sprinkling of holy water at each grave as he walked around the St Anne’s BM cemetery.
This year, the census of the graves is taking place. “Just like we have an address, our kin at the graves need addresses as well. We need to ensure that each burial lot is verified,” explained Msgr Stephen Liew.
The name list of the burial plots is being displayed at the church every Sunday beginning Oct 1. This census is handled by the St Joseph Cemetery Committee and is scheduled to end by Dec 31 this year.
Parishioners are requested to verify the details listed and confirm their kin/spouse buried at the cemetery. The committee members are present every Sunday to help the parishioner to identify the burial plots.
The parish priest and the St Joseph Cemetery Committee has decided to place a cement cross measuring 3 feet 5 inches at RM150 each for all earth graves. The committee will collect this sum from the next of kin/spouse.
