IPOH : The parish of Our Mother of Perpetual Help (OMPH) celebrated Children’s Day with Mass on Oct 31 - the eve of All Saints’ Day.

In his sermon, Fr Eugene Fernandez, CSsR, explained about the Beatitudes. “It [Beatitudes] talks about being ‘poor in spirit’…. being ‘peacemakers’, hence the Beatitudes are all about the ordinary things in life,” he said.

Fr Eugene gave an example of Mother Teresa — her way of doing little things in extraordinary ways. He also mentioned that being ‘pure in heart’ is not just about being goodnatured. “What is in our hearts/minds when we interact or help others?” Fr Eugene also voiced his admiration towards the parents, who have made many sacrifices for their families. He added that besides providing the best of everything for their families, parents should also educate their children on the virtues of the Beatitudes. Fr Eugene rounded up by stating that we are all ‘saints’ in our ordinary ways.

The sunset Mass was animated by the children of the parish, and making a special appearance was the Children’s Choir. After the Thanksgiving Hymn, Fr Eugene invited all the children present to come forward to receive a special blessing. Each child was also given a Rubik’s Cube as a gift.

This was one of the many occasions where the children of OMPH worked via their ministry to share the faith with others. The OMPH Youths have also been busy; they had a Charity Car Wash the previous week. In December, the youths are planning to have a Prom Night. — By Felicia G. Alexis
