Chinese New Year Mass at City Parish |

The gifts offered up were a bouquet of flowers, three cups of wine and two trays of fruits.
PENANG: City Parish celebrated its Chinese New Year Mass on Saturday, Feb 17 at 10.30pm at the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows.
Fr Thomas Chong, SJ from Johor was the main celebrant, with parish priest, Fr Michael Thoo concelebrating.
In Fr Chong’s homily, he surprised the congregation by saying there is nothing new in the Chinese New Year. He said that as Chinese New Year is celebrated every year, there is nothing new in the year; however, the newness of it is expressed in symbolism.
It is an on-going cycle combining what we do during the Chinese New Year and beyond. Though each year is celebrated in about the same way, there are improvements. This, Fr Thomas said, will become a renewal process for us.
God had given us the opportunity to celebrate the New Year every year, thus we must remember God’s greatness to us. We do this by getting ourselves renewed in our actions and our faith. With each approaching year, we try to better ourselves.
