IPOH: In celebration of the coming of Jesus, to establish peace on earth, this year’s crib at St Michael’s Church, set up by the Hospitality Ministers, is titled, The Miracle at Bethlehem.

The “evergreen” crib shows the miracle of the birth of Jesus, who showed us the way to God’s peace, surpassing all human understanding, since his life embodied truth, justice, love and freedom.

The other miracle shown in the crib was the contrast in the weather. It showed the heat in the mountains and sand dunes, while a blistering winter was blowing in the town of Bethlehem, yet a calm and beautiful atmosphere prevailed adorded the stable where Jesus was born.

The hospitality ministers chose this idea to show, that with the birth of Jesus, there was an instantaneous natural change. The arrival of the three kings, the sparkling Star of stars, underscore the beautiful miracle of nature that only God can manifest, a change in the weather.

At the front of the crib, a man stands near the door in the blistering winter, showing Bethlehem was not empty or deserted.

The stable was open wide to emphasise its importance to the whole event. Thirdly, the window behind the stable showed green grass, instead of snow, symbolisng the miraculous incarnation of God, the birth of Jesus.

The crib at SMC somehow reminds us to look for miracles all around. These may be reconciliation or changes of heart, but somehow we miss them because we are looking elsewhere.
