BATU GAJAH: The Eucharistic celebration was brought forward by half an hour so that the parishioners of St Joseph’s Church would have more time for an enjoyable afternoon with their family and friends at their Family Day celebration.
Many activities were planned for the day. Food was on a pot-luck basis and the drinks were sponsored by the Youths of the parish. There were games for the young and for the elderly, who were divided into the BEC Zones and they competed against each other. Lucky Draw numbers were given to all those who came to join in the event. All the lucky draw prizes were sponsored.
Together with the celebration, the Parish Pastoral Council also took the opportunity to have a soft launching for their much awaited Multi Purpose Community Hall.
Raffle tickets were sold at RM2 each and the prizes were donated by members of the parish, the parish groups and even their parish priest, Fr Robin Andrews contributed the main prize which was a mountain bike. The response to the raffle ticket sales was overwhelming as visitors to the parish came forward to play their part.
According to Fr Robin, the building of the Community Hall is very important as the present building which is used for the Catechism class have been badly affected by termites and the structure is giving way due to its old age.
The event saw the cooperation amongst the parishioners who came forward to offer their assistance in ensuring that the event was a success. They were there till late into the evening on the eve of the event and some came as early as 6.00 am on the day of the event and left after the parish grounds were cleared up.
