ALOR SETAR: The Church of St Michael celebrated her belated Parish Feastday in  the newly renovated air-conditioned church on    Oct 31. This was also the  second Special Parish Event. Bishop Antony Selvanayagam celebrated the Eucharist  with Frs Jude Miranda, Stanley Antoni and Michael Dass concelebrating.

A nine-day novena on the themes Service, Priority, Reconciliation, Unity,  Love, Healing, Mission, Faithfulness, and Sincerity were held nightly prior to the feastday.

Parishioners also attended a short retreat in their respective language groups.

The Mass, attended by about 400 Catholics, was also for All Souls’ Day, the confirmation of 40 confirmands and the blessing of the newly renovated church.

The Bishop in his sermon stressed on the need to deepen our discipleship and to live out our spirituality of communion. He was impressed by the parishioners’ ability to unite, cooperate and labour together to upgrade the Lord’s house in a short period of time.

In his closing address, Fr Jude Miranda thanked all the parishioners and well wishers from far and wide for their donations through the Pledge Cards, “Tile-a-thon” Cards, cash and material gifts which made the renovation project successful. The resurfacing of the tarmac and reconstruction of the drainage system would be undertaken soon.

James Lau, the PPC Chairman, expressed his joy with the completion of the renovation project in time to celebrate the belated Parish feastday. He said, “We have together rebuilt the Lord’s house.”
