Fr Anthony Chong’'s 40th sacredotal anniversary |

IPOH: Some 300 parishioners from St Michael’s Church, Our Mother of Perpetual Help and Our Lady of Lourdes Church, came together to celebrate the 40th ordination anniversary of Fr Anthony Chong at a Eucharistic Celebration at St Michael’s Church.
The Mass, held on Dec 8 was celebrated by Fr Anthony Chong, and concelebrated by Fr Michael Cheah.
During his homily given in Hakka and English, Fr Chong, 68, reminded the people to thank God for giving His Son Jesus to save us.
“God chose Mary to be the mother of our Saviour. She was like us, but prepared for this (role) by being born without original sin. God used Mary and asked her permission and we have her response in the fiat.
“The Catholic Church has been brave enough to say Mary is conceived without sin and is the mother of the Son of God and the son of man. This is a great mystery we can’t understand. Thank God we have Mary. We are reminded at Christmas that Jesus came to take away our sins. Try not to sin,” he said.
The Thanksgiving Mass was followed by a simple buffet dinner.
SMC parish priest, Fr Michael Cheah congratulated Fr Chong on his sacerdotal anniversary, and wished him many more happy years. He also thanked everyone who had helped and come together for the dinner.
Fr Chong then cut a cake as parishioners sang along. He responded to their happy calls for a speech by singing and playing the guitar.
Everyone then heartily tucked into their meal, whilst Fr Chong went around the tables, speaking to the people.
