SITIAWAN: As Son, Jesus bestowed honour on His Mother and in the same way all Mothers who had gathered together on Mothers’ Day on May 10 were also bestowed honour during the Eucharistic celebration.
Parish priest Fr Arulnathan Joseph, in his homily praised all mothers for their genuine love and care for their children and the parish. He said, “God blesses all mothers, both young and old. The community gathered together also loves them as well.”
At the end of the Eucharistic celebration, three elderly mothers were invited to cut a cake. He then invited all mothers present to come forward as he said a special prayer for them. Afterwards he blessed them with Holy Water. Then, Fr Arul gave each a rose as remembrance of the day.
Fr Arul also took the opportunity to thank Sr William Fernandez for all her services rendered to the parish during her eight years stay in Sitiawan. She is now transferred to Cheras to take up greater challenges and to have many more wonderful God experiences there.
Sr William entered the Novitiate in 1988 and was then posted to the Bukit Nanas convent. She was also a Council member of the IJ Sisters. A member of the Council, she had to shuttle from Kuala Lumpur to Sitiawan very often, so the parishioners nicknamed her as ‘The Shuttling Nun’. She was also an animator for the IJ Sisters in Sitiawan.
When approached Sr William had this to say, “Children, do remember to give a hug and kiss and don’t hesitate to say, ‘Mummy I love you’. As I bid farewell to you, my dear friends of this parish of St Francis de Sales, I want to thank each and everyone of you for all that you have been, the love and concern shown, the bonding and growth in friendship together with the support and co-operation given me during my services in the parish. I take with me as I move on to my next mission in Cheras all these sentiments with appreciation and gratitude. So I would like to thank my friends of this Parish, especially Fr Arul for the love and concern shown to me.”
The celebration ended with a fellowship in the Church Hall when the parishioners had the opportunity to bid farewell and thank Sister personally.
