Jogathon at Our Lady of Lourdes, Silibin

IPOH: Efforts to realise the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes' dream of building a Parish Activities Centre went underway with the organising of an Open Parish Jogathon that took place on June 25.

Way before dawn, the parish grounds were abuzz with enthusiastic people warming-up and also those making last minute preparations. Participants came from all walks of life, religions and ethnic groups.

This much-awaited and publicised event, once again saw the participation of the three parishes in Ipoh. Alicia Anne Morris (8yrs), from St Michae'ss Church was prompted to participate by her classmate from MGS, Susanne Doris Sandana Das, from Our Lady of Lourdes. Both friends walked away with hampers - Susanne clinching the 7th place and Alicia the 8th, in the Wome'ss Junior Under 18 category.

Over from Our Mother of Perpetual Help came Sharon Pinto, Marguerita Nalina, Peter Wong and the husband-wife team, Rachel and Michael Fernando who found that while helping the church, they had enjoyed themselves and had fun. Two notable participants in the Women's Veteran Category were the famous Lean sisters - Louisa and Anne, from SMC.

Participants from Our Lady of Lourdes included the two parish priests, Frs Bernard Paul and Dominic Santhiyagu, leaders and members of church organisations, the migrants, families which included the tiny tots, youths and children.

Apart from the active participants, there were also those who came to cheer and give support by their very presence.  One such enthusiastic 81-year-old, who was proud to have taken part in the previous jogathon, was aunty Charlotte Martin.  "I wish I was younger, then... I can run and take part,"said aunty Charlotte, who was a Telecom’'  athlete in her younger days.  Mrs Beryl Sylva, who came with her husband said, "I screamed when the Fathers came in last…last time, I came in last." she added with a chuckle.

All this enthusiasm and spirit of goodwill that prevailed proves the success of the event. Kudos to Mr. L.A. Nathan and his committee who worked meticulously and tirelessly for the success of this event.
