Lantern festival in Taiping

TAIPING: The Chinese community celebrated the lantern festival recently. A few Indians and Eurasions joined about 200 Chinese children and adults to celebrate the festival at the Holy Spirit Hall of the Taiping Catholic Church.

Children carrying lanterns in procession on church grounds around St Louis Church paused briefly at the grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes to say a short prayer of thanksgiving before proceeding to the Holy Spirit Hall to continue their celebration.

There they were entertained with a series of  games facilitated by the Chinese speaking youths of the parish.
The adults took care of the lucky draws. One of the highlights of the evening was the bible quiz for school children. Those who answered correctly won “ang-pows” as prizes.

This was one of the efforts of the Chinese Apostolate of the Taiping Catholic church to include Chinese cultural festivities as part of parish celebrations, thus bringing them into the ambit of Christian influence in the process of inculturation.
