Lenten Campaign launched in City Parish

24 February 2008

PENANG: City Parish launched the Lenten Campaign 2008 at all Masses of its four churches (Our Lady of Sorrows, St Francis Xavier, St John Britto, Assumption Church) during the weekend of Feb 9 and 10.

It was a simple ceremony where the Lenten Campaign banner was unfurled in church after the thanksgiving hymn.

Two Love Squad members brought up the banner in procession. As the banner was slowly unfurled, another member gave a brief explanation of the Lenten Campaign, concentrating on the theme ‘Lend A Hand’.

Besides explaining what the Lenten Campaign is about, the Love Squad member also called on the congregation to lend a hand by whatever means they could during this Lent to support the activities organised by the Love Squad members, or in their own way, fulfilling the pledges they made.

A word of thanks was offered to the parishioners for their past support and it is hoped that they would continue to support the 2008 Lenten Campaign.

A ‘Lenten Board’ was also introduced during the launching. Parishioners were encouraged to write their pledges on a piece of coloured paper in the shape of a hand and stick them onto the board.
