IPOH: The parish of Our Lady of Lourdes (OLOL) had its annual Parish Assembly on Dec 3. About 150 leaders representing the organisations and BECs of the parish which has about 8,000 parishioners met to review and plan for the year 2007.

The theme for this year’s assembly was Living Stone, Living Church. Parish priest Fr Bernard Paul led the reviews and the planning session for the year 2007. Assistant Parish priest Fr Dominic Santhiyagu was also present.

The parish of Our Lady of Lourdes had undergone a challenging period this year.

In July several OLOL pilgrims on their way for the feast of St Anne lost their lives in one of the most devastating road accidents.

On November 5, the parish was shaken once again with unrest caused by Muslims who acted based on a false sms during a First Holy Communion celebration.

Despite these trying times the leaders concluded that the parish had progressed in faith this year.

In June this year the parish had also hosted a Corpus Christi feast jointly organised with neighbouring parishes which was celebrated grandly with a procession of the Blessed Sacrament outside the Church compound.

Fr Bernard Paul stressed that all programmes organised must not merely be “activities” but must meet four main criteria. A parish that is: Prophetic, Visionary, Purpose Driven and Value Based.

He concluded that the most important characteristic needed to achieve this is to have the “Right Attitude”.
To achieve this, the parish will focus on Consolidation and Progress for BEC and organisation leaders and a structured Leadership and Faith Development Programme in 2007.
