IPOH: The Parish of Our Mother of Perpetual Help (OMPH) had a Family Day Carnival on Sunday Apr 26. The event began at 9.30am with the cutting of the ribbon by the parish priest Fr Philip Lai CSsR and his assistant Fr Eugene Fernandez CSsR. The crowd was then treated to a live performance by the Brass Band from St Michael’s Institution (SMI).

A wide variety of stalls were set up on the day selling finger-foods such as curry puffs and Nyonya kueh, as well as Indian and Chinese food. There was also the Laksa Sarawak sold by the East Malaysian parishioners.

The hot weather that morning saw many flocking to the ice cream and drink stalls. In addition to the food and drink stalls, there were also other stalls selling handicrafts, costume jewellery, crystal stones, mobile phone covers and organic floor cleaners. Some stalls even sold fresh vegetables from Cameron Highlands.

One of the stalls which drew the curiosity of the crowd was the exhibition of new cars. In the parish hall, there was a jumble sale which had a plentiful display of new and pre loved items — clothes, shoes, trinkets, books, VCDs and so on.

The children were fascinated by the mini animal farm. Many were seen feeding, and even posing with the sheep and goats. The other attractions were the pony rides and the dog show, which started at about 10.30am.

Throughout the carnival, those present were entertained with cultural dances — performed by children and adults alike. Proceeds from the carnival will reimburse the Bishop’s loan for the purchase of the ‘Wallace House’ — a PHDC project. —
