BUKIT MERTAJAM: The procession in honour of St Anne took place at 10.00pm. About 80,000 people, who came from near and far, took part in the procession

The procession was led by Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio, Bishop Anthony Selvanayagam, Bishop Paul Tan SJ and Msgr Stephen Liew.

After the crowning of the statues of St Anne and Mother Mary, they were carried out in procession, followed by the altar boys, flower girls, girls carrying the bunga manggar, banner bearers, Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio and Bishops, Priests and then the congregation.

After that, the petition letters, which had been offered to St Anne for her intercession, were burnt.

Bishop Selva led the closing prayer followed by the ever-famous hymn to St Anne, the ‘Ave Good St Anne’.
The vigil Mass then took place at 11.45 pm inside the church.

St Anne’s Feast Organizing Chairman, Matthew Michael, expressed his thanks to many people.

“The open-air Mass was well organised. The coordination between the choir groups, ministry of hospitality ministers, Extraordinary ministers of Communion, altar servers, altar ladies, the security personnel must be praised. This year, we had 1,900 volunteers who worked throughout the 10 days.”

He also thanked the police, FRU, Bomba, RELA and Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah for ensuring that the celebrations went on smoothly.
