Special theme song composed by youths

PENANG: The launching of the Lenten Campaign 2007 was held simultaneously at all the four churches of City Parish on the First Sunday of Lent, i.e. on  Feb 24 and 25.

This year, apart from the youths in the Love Squad, members of the Parish Human Development Committee are also in the Love Squad. The Love Squad is a team formed during Lent to promote the Lenten Campaign.

The launching was a simple ceremony that began with the banner being brought forward to be unfurled in front of the altar.  Then a 3-minute video presentation on the plight of the poor, marginalised, and homeless was shown. The theme song, with accompanying lyrics, was then played.

This special theme song was composed by the youths in the Love Squad: Andrew Ng, Luisa Ann, Yolanda Gregory and Stanislaus Hanson.  This song was shared with all the other 27 parishes in Penang Diocese via Penang Office for Human Development (POHD).

While the theme song was being played, leaflets on the Lenten Campaign were distributed.

City Parish had planned many activities e.g skit, exhibition and sale of Do Something t-shirts. One of the highlights of the activities is the ‘Pledge Tree.’ A live tree, with only the branches was placed in front of the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows. Green and red paper leaves were prepared. The green leaves are for the parishioners to state their pledge,  while the red leaves are to be used once they have fulfilled their pledge. Therefore by the end of the Lent season, it is hoped that the tree will be filled with red leaves.

City Parish hopes that the Pledge Tree will serve as a reminder to parishioners that they ought do something this Lent. Hopefully too, that parishioners will support the Love Squad in their activities.
