BUKIT MERTAJAM: The second special parish event for St Anne's BM for the year 2008 was held on October 1. The aim of this event is to create a greater unity through the devotion to Mother Mary. The level of unity in our BEC and Parish is inadequate; therefore Parish Priest Msgr Stephen Liew had planned for this parish event.

The parishioners gathered at the grotto of our Lady of Lourdes at St Anne’s Church at 7.00pm. The session started with the recitation of the Rosary in three-languages followed by a three-language open air Mass at the Grotto grounds.

The Mass was celebrated by Msgr Stephen Liew with Frs Clement and Fr Francis Chao, visiting priests Jude Miranda from Alor Star and Michael Dass from Sg Petani con-celebrating.

The homily in three languages, focussed on God’s love for children and how we should be ‘like’ children to enter the Kingdom of God.

After the post-communion prayer, Msgr Stephen delivered a short speech, stressing on the need to pray together as families and BECs. Fr Liew then unveiled the plaque of the grotto which was blessed by His Grace, Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio (Apostolic Delegate) in July, 2008. After this, about 34 27-inch-statues of Mother Mary were blessed by Msgr Liew. They were then presented to the leaders of the BECs for use throughout the month of October.

From Oct 2 until the end of this month, family rosary in individual homes and Rosary at BEC level will be held at every BEC. Every BEC is encouraged to join this event as a family to strengthen our faith.

At the end of the month, Oct 31, to mark the closing of the month-long event, there will be another recitation of the Rosary at parish level at 7.30pm, followed by a Eucharistic celebration and fellowship.
