BUKIT MERTAJAM: The Parish of St Anne will be celebrating St Anne’s Feast and Novena from July 20 to July 29.
Pilgrims to the feast and novena will be treated to an exhibition of exquisite wood carvings, statues, figurines and framed precious stones in the images of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Mary, St. Anne and other saints. The exhibits will be on display at a makeshift booth throughout the 10-day celebrations. The Parish youths will be on hand to help out.
The pilgrims will also have the opportunity to patronise the newly-opened Souvenirs & Gifts Shop, which sells a wide range of religious articles and souvenir items. The shop, manned mainly by volunteers from the parish, opens daily from 9.00am to 7.00pm, including public holidays, except Mondays.
According to Msgr Stephen Liew, the parish priest, proceeds from the sales of the exhibits, together with the sales of food, drinks and other items, will be used to start a children’s library and a resource centre and also to subsidise the cost of running Pusat Haemodialisis St Anne.
“The aim is to encourage the children to develop a love for their faith and to emulate the saints as the role model for their life. The resource centre will be equipped with the latest multi-media facilities,” explained Msgr Liew.
At the same time, the prayer groups will be conducting some evangelising activities, one of which is the screening of short video clips. There will be an information booth to answer queries from pilgrims on faith and St Anne. The prayer groups are in the midst of preparing explanatory leaflets and the information booth.
The overall theme for this year’s St Anne’s Feast and Novena is Deepening Our Discipleship. Each day of the celebration has a different sub-theme. There will be two processions, one on the actual Feastday, Thursday, July 26, and the other on Saturday, July 28. The rosary will be recited, led by different language prayer groups, throughout the two processions.
