BUKIT MERTAJAM: The Parish of St Anne’s will focus on Family Life in 2011. This was agreed at the Pastoral Assembly on Dec 5. In his welcoming speech, Fr Henry Rajoo said that this was a whole new experience for him. “As a parish priest, people assume the priest is the CEO of the church. But in actual fact, he is a shepherd. A parish priest comes and goes every 5-6 years, but during that tenure, he is actually journeying with the community.”

A summary of all activities done in the year 2010 was presented based on the theme May we all be One. “If we don’t evaluate ourselves, we cannot grow,” said Fr Henry, at the end of the evaluation of 2010 activities. Then a workshop was conducted in small groups on the question: Was there growth in my relationship with other BEC members and the non- Catholics in my neighbourhood? After a short break, each representative presented their findings. There was both positive and negative outcomes.

Fr Henry then gave his opinion on the feedback. “Some BECs struggled in this journey but there are some who progressed well. Have more activities besides having reflection papers only. Be creative and do something creative in your small BEC group. If your BEC is alive, reach out to others.” The thrust for 2011 was then presented.

Discipleship towards Mission and Family Life is the theme with the slogan My Family My Life. By December 2011, every family in St Anne’s will be strengthened by praying together as a family and having a meal together at least once a week. A BEC-level event will be held in conjunction with the Easter season in May and a parish-level event and Family Day will also take place in the same year. After the Q & A session, a fellowship dinner was held at the Parish Centre. — By Marlina Sara
