ALOR SETAR: The Church of St Michael has unanimously agreed to move forward with the Parish Pastoral Thrust “to be rooted in communion with God and with one another by growing in holistic understanding of the Catholic Faith and by reaching out to the lapsed Catholics which does not exclude active Catholics and evangelization” for the year 2009.

The slogan May We All Be One (John 17:21) was chosen to guide and motivate the parishioners. All the BECs and Service Teams in the parish were critically evaluated, using the SWOT Analysis. Two Parish Special Events and two Special BEC Events were successfully planned to cut across race and language barriers. The parish has also decided to conduct the BEC Census Exercise.

Seventy people, including those from the sister chapel of Jabi were represented at the assembly. Fr Stanley Antoni, the Assistant Parish Priest, in the opening address, read from Romans Chapter 12, encouraging the delegates to use and appreciate each other’s talents and gifts.

The sessions were animated by James Lau, the PPC Chairman, Thomas Chua, the PAT Chairman and also  Maria Arokiam. Fr Jude Miranda, the Parish Priest, explained the Diocesan Pastoral Thrust and urged the delegates to plan objectively. Msgr Stephen Liew, representing the DPT, observed the assembly, and in his closing address, stressed on  a participative church, collaborative ministry and the spirituality of communion.
