IPOH: Such a large crowd gathered for the St Michael’s Church thanksgiving dinner on Sept 23, that it was difficult to find seats.
People were crowded not only in the Parish Activity hall but also on the stage, where tables had been set. Young and old, they had not been forgotten for whatever contributions they had made in helping build SMC parish.
The dinner was the parish’s way of acknowledging the work done by the people in various ministries, over the past year, at SMC.
For the kids present (four tables) it was a good way to teach about what Jesus taught, about being faithful servants of the kingdom of God (Luke12:35-39). There were so many things they had to learn about God, but they knew His love and that it was important for them to share that love and help others.
Noticeably present were the altar servers and the Chinese youth group, who were seated on the stage, and the Filipino migrants who had a table to themselves.
“Continue to help build the parish and provide service to others,” was SMC parish priest Fr Michael Cheah’s simple message to all present before he blessed the food and the caterers as well.
“Let’s hope next year the number of parishioners giving service will be doubled, and we might have to open up tables outside the hall,” Fr Cheah said to rousing applause.
He also expressed his gratitude to the organising committee of the dinner, asking for cooperation of all parishioners, as the parish plans to make the thanksgiving dinner an annual affair.
During the dinner, there were loud cheers of yam seng as parishioners enjoyed the delicious food and lucky draws. Fr Cheah also went around the tables, thanking parishioners for their contribution to the parish.
