BUKIT MERTAJAM :
In the newsletter message, parish priest, Msgr Stephen Liew stressed that Mission Sunday responsibility requires courage and strength to proclaim Christ as the Redeemer of every human person.
“This Special Event makes us realize that we have to share in the mission of the church which is to further the mission of Christ (Jn 20:21),” he said in the newsletter published for this Special Event.
Fr Edwin Paul, the Rector of College General, was the celebrant for the Mass, which was concelebrated by parish priest Msgr Stephen Liew and Fr Clement Pereira. The multilingual Mass was celebrated to foster fellowship among the parishioners.
In his homily, Fr Edwin Paul spoke about the saints who shared Christ’s words and actions. He cited St Francis Xavier, the Apostle of the East, as one shining example. He also spoke about how people’s attitude brings about unfairness.
“What kind of people are we basically? Most people like to focus on their own personality. Personalities are what we build in us. In this world, we like to focus on ambitions. We overemphasize so much on ambitions that we lose the humanity in us.”
He further stressed that when we focus on ambition, we become unequal, as we tend to compare if we are better than the other person.
“Focus on your commission and be aware of who you are. We are all commissioned by God; he made you and me because He loves us all the same. The mission of proclaiming the good news is not only by words but by actions.”
The offertory procession was made special in conjunction with Mission Sunday. Besides the bread and wine and the collection, BEC leaders and core team members offered up their “Mission Coin” showing the missionary activity they carried out.
The Mass ended with Fellowship at the church entrance. —By Marlina Sara
