BUKIT MERTAJAM:  The Church of St Anne celebrated the Catechetical Sunday with Msgr Stephen Liew giving recognition to the volunteer catechists from the various language groups including the RCIA faith formators during the Sunday Mass.

He commended them for their dedication and commitment in the faith formation of the children and youths and RCIA for adults as well.

At the same time, Msgr Stephen Liew reminded the parents that they are the primary catechists and encouraged them to sow the seed of faith. In his sermon, he highlighted that “faith is more often caught than taught” and encouraged the parents and catechists to be examples for the children. He also expressed appreciation to the catechists who continued to faithfully offer themselves in service of “echoing God’s message” and examplary faith sharing.

Following the short screening of the powerpoint presentation CD given by the Malaysian Catechetical Commission, Msgr Liew invited all catechists to come forward for blessing. After the blessing and sprinkling of Holy Water, a special recognition award was presented to Louise Cornelius, pic who continuously and faithfully has been a catechist for more than 20 years.

Later in the evening, the catechists and faith formators from the RCIA of the various language groups with their family members came together to be feted to a buffet dinner in the Parish Centre of the Church of St Anne.

In her opening speech, the organising chairperson, Christine Gooi expressed her hope that the catechists and faith formators would enjoy themselves as the evening was a reward for their commitment and dedication for the past year. The Coordinator for the English Speaking Catechetical Team thanked the teachers for their faithfulness in the ministry of catechetics.

Fr Clement, the resident priest, in his speech, then commented that without the catechists and the faith formators, the parish will not be able to carry on as the catechists and faith formators are the ones that ensured that the faith of the church are handed down to the next generation.

All enjoyed the evening and many were rewarded with prizes from the Lucky Draw.
