Welciming the migrants in our midst |

SITIAWAN: The migrants were not forgotten during the celebration of the birth of Christ at the Church of St Francis De Sales. Parish Priest Fr Arulnathan Joseph (pic) felt that it was important to have them at the heart of the celebration of Christmas. Christ came to reach out to the poor and the marginalized.
Today Christ is present in them. More than a thousand migrants came for the Christmas Mass. More were unable to make it due to not having valid documents. “They often feel out of place with the parish community. They shy away from the parishioners thinking they are outsiders. Why can’t we have a little bit of our Christian charity to make them feel at home?” asked Fr Arulnathan.
A special dinner and breakfast were arranged for them organized by some BECs. The parish also provided a place for them to spend the night after the vigil Mass. And there was a special Mass for them at 8.30am in Bahasa Malaysia on Christmas Day. During Advent, a special Advent session was organized for those who lived far from the parish.
Most of the time many events take place in the parish. The outskirts are not thought about. This advent session is the gesture of care and concern for the outskirts. The session culminated with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
